Subject: April 25, towards the construction of a shared memory
Gent.Le Councillor Patricia Beretta are writing, the week before April 25, to pose for our public library purchase a book called The Resistance flag. The story ignored by the partisans with the stars of Petacco Arrigo, Giancarlo Mazzuca, published by Mondadori, which sheds light on some events still little known of the Italian resistance experienced by Italian soldiers and sailors of our fleet (who fought in Kefalonia, Lero, in Yugoslavia and many other locations in the European war scenario), and constitutes a further step called for in the reconstruction of a shared memory.
After the proclamation of the armistice by Marshal Badoglio and the flight of Vittorio Emanuele III and of government Brindisi, in fact the Italian soldiers, abandoned to their fate, found themselves facing a dramatic choice: stay with the king or the leader? Febrile hours followed, during which the Germans, the new enemies, not work hard to get hold of the part not yet released the peninsula. Against them began the resistance.
By this means, in general, the partisan resistance, especially active since June 1944, as the official history seems to have forgotten the painful story of the many soldiers who, in obedience to orders and keeping faith with his oath , refused to surrender and died fighting the Nazis, not only in Italy but also in the Balkans, in Corsica, in the Aegean islands and other remote locations guarded by our troops. Arrigo Petacco and Giancarlo Mazzuca, with the help of historical documents and testimonies of those who are living those crucial hours, giving new voice to memory and testimony as unfairly neglected in those dramatic days every personal choice are a fundamental component in the mosaic of the collective history of our country.
Trusting in His active contribution to this best regards.
The councilors
